The machinery that Meyer is using is too loud. It squeaks. It clangs. And the overall hum of the engines is enough to drown out all the other ambiance of a once-quiet neighborhood.
Perhaps Meyer should get new machinery.
Or, even better: maybe Meyer should hire more workers and build the berm in the old fashion way---by hand.
The state has standards for noise pollution and those standards are enforced by local law enforcement. If you feel that the noise is too loud, call the following people to make a complaint:

seriously?! Were you standing 15 feet from the machine. I guess you've never been on a job site where large machinery is used. All pieces of "yellow iron" clang, rattle and are loud. Would you expect something the size of garden tractor to move large amounts of dirt?
I'm sure that they could build the berms by hand, but that would only prolong the amount of time that the pit would be operating, which i'm sure you would complain about, right?
My question is why haven't you called your state senator/representative to complain then if this is such an issue for you? All OSHA to file a noise complaint then, I'm sure they are well below their deccible readings. Your lawmower is louder than the machinery.

I work on construction sites regularly, the noise is less tolerable at my home, during my dinner. Work continues nightly till 7 PM or dusk whichever happens first.
It used to be peaceful here, but won't be for any time soon. How would you like it? I don't!!
don't worry, winter is coming and sunlight is limited. You won't be hearing the machinary anymore.
Well when the evening light comes back next year, I will still be having dinner to loud and unpleasant sounds of earth moving equipment on a daily, annoying basis. It will still suck!
you could always pour sugar in the gas tanks, and acid in the hydraulic lines of the loud equipment...that may quite them down for awhile. You may be getting to see the inside of the Cary jailhouse, but at least it's quite right?

Back in 1989, we were looking to move to Cary. Fox Trails was a new development at the time and we were very interested. After a couple of visits, I happened to ask the sales rep what the zoning was around the development. She was evasive and didn't give me the answer. I mentioned this to my real estate attorney and she checked into it at the court house. Her response was that the (then) corn fields around the West and South were zoned as mining and was currently being leased out for farming. We bought in Greenfield instead, assuming that somewhere along the line, there would be a pit dug there and I didn't want to deal with it. Now, after 15 years or so, it has finally happened. However, there has been a gravel pit planned there since forever, you folks just neglected to check it out. I don't think that Meyer is encroaching on Cary, more like Cary is encroaching on them.
I do feel your pain, though. The house I bought, backs up to Cary-Algonquin Road, which at the time was a sleepy little tar and chip road with maybe 100 cars a day using it. Since then, they built the viaduct at 14, now it's closer to 100 cars per HOUR (many from Fox Trails). The Meyer trucks start at around 5:30am and I'll never understand why the mark of a real man is to pull the baffles out of motorcycle exhaust pipes...they drive me nuts.
